Begin by throughly washing your hands with soap and clean water. Ensure your hand is clean before start to treat or bandage the wound. This step is essential to prevent introducing additional bacteria into the wound.

Step 2: Wear Disposable Gloves (If available)

If disposable glove is available, wear it to further reduce the risk of infection. However, if there is no disposable glove available, use your hand and ensure the hand is washed right before start the treatment.

Step 3: Control Bleeding

Your main priority should be to stop the bleeding if the wound is bleeding. This is how you do it:

1. Apply gentle or even pressure to the wound using a clean cloth, cotton wool or pad or sterile bandage. Don't press too hard as it may cause pain to the treated person.

2. Elevate the wounded area a bit, to helps reduce the blood flow to the wound.

3. Do not remove the first dressing if the blood soaks through it. Instead, add more layers of bandages or clean cloth.

Step 4: Clean the Wound

Cleaning the wound is necessary once the bleeding has stopped. This is how you do it:

1. Gently rinse the wound under flowing water to get rid of any debris or dirt.

2. Alcohol and hydrogen peroxide should not be used to clean the wound as they may damage the tissue.

3. Clean the area of the wound with mild soap and water, do not scrub the wound itself.

Step 5: Apply an Antiseptic

Apply a small amount of antiseptic or iodine to the wound by using cotton bud or pad to help to prevent infection.

Step 6: Dress the Wound

Put a clean bandage or dressing on the wound. Make sure the dressing is tidy and debris-free. To hold it in place, use bandages or medical tape.

Step 7: Observe and replace dressing

Keep an eye for signs of infection like redness, increasing discomfort, or drainage from the site of infection. Change the dressing as needed or as recommended by a healthcare professional.
