MASTERING THE BASIC FIRST AID: CPR LIKE A PRO

Imagine you are in a situation where an accident is happpening in front of your eyes. In the midst of a life-or-death crisis, where every second hangs is a matter of life or death, our immediate action can help to keep the victim alive. Nevertheless, even with a small mistake in giving first aid could be disastrous to the accident victim. That's why having a knowledge of basic first aid is crucial to prevent from unforeseen incidents when administering first aid.

When providing a basic first aid, a person need to know step-by-step what they should be doing. Remember DRSABCD during providing basic first aid in cases of a medical emergency like cardiac arrest or when someone is unresponsiveness. DRSABCD is the acronym for procedures implemented by the first aiders. DRSABCD stands for:

1. D for Danger – Assess the situation. Ensure that both you and the injured person are protected in the area. Identify for potential hazard and address them if possible.

2. R for Response- Check on responsiveness or consciousness. Approach the injured person slowly and carefully, gently tap on their shoulder while     asking about their condition. Observe for indicators of consciouness, including respiration and responsiveness.

3. S for Send for help- Send for help and ask for AED by dialing 999 to get help from ambulance or medical assistance. It's important to get professional medical help on the way as soon as possible.

4. A for Airway- Open airway. To clear the airway of an unresponsive individual, gently tilt their head back and raise their chin. This contributes to the maintenance of a clear airway, facilitating respiration

5. B for Breathing- Check respiration rate. Assess respiration for a maximum of 10 seconds. Observe and assess the chest's rise and fall, as well as listen for respiration sounds.

6. C for Circulation- Give chest compression. Check for a pulse if the individual is not inhaling or is breathing abnormally. When a pulse is not detected within a duration of 10 seconds, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) should be initiated in order to reinstate blood flow.

7. D for Defbrillation- When AED is available and the victim is not breathing properly and unresponsive, use it to check the victim's cardiac rhythm and, if necessary shock them with electricity. Follow the instructions given by AED.

DRSABCD serves as a foundational framework for the preliminary evaluation of an emergency scenario, particularly when confronted with an unresponsive individual. It assists first aid personnel in promptly ascertaining the most suitable course of action in accordance with the individual's state. Remember not to be panic and don't perform unnecessarily procedures if you are not trained or without any medical professional guidance.
