INTRODUCTION TO ERGONOMICS HAZARD

INTRODUCTION TO ERGONOMICS HAZARD

Practicing better industrial safety is the best way to ensure that operational processes run smoothly, which is in the best interest of workers, suppliers, and customers. Industrial business safety strives to prevent workplace hazards, including chemical exposure, poor ergonomics, and physical hazards so that business operations can continue without disrupting production industries.

Most of the industrial production involves repeated or continuous movements that do not allow for more variation. Workers do these same tasks for hours at once, which may put them at risk of producing work-related injuries. The movement of some manufacturing jobs are mostly unchangeable. There may be little you can do to determine and prevent or limit spinning, bending, hitting, or lifting for certain tasks.

Some business jobs and cycles are repetitive in nature and are often controlled by hourly or regular output targets and business operations. Higher work repetition, when combined with other risk factors such as high power or uncomfortable postures, may contribute to the activity of Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Soft-tissue injuries brought on by unexpected or prolonged exposure to repeated motion, stress, vibration, and uncomfortable postures are known as musculoskeletal diseases (MSDs). These conditions can harm your neck, lower back, upper and lower limb muscles, nerves, tendons, joints, and cartilage.

Ergonomics shows the organization's commitment to safety and health as the core value. The cumulative effect of the previous four benefits of ergonomics is a stronger safety culture for the organization. Healthy employees are the most valuable asset, it is making and nurturing the safety and health society in the organization that will lead to better human performance for the organization.

According to Occupational Accident Statistics by Sector January to November 2021 (investigated), there are 21,534 occupational injuries out of 15.06 million employed persons in Malaysia. (Shown as below infographic based on the Department of Statistics Malaysia Official Portal) It is important for a company to improve the employee’s awareness on the right safety ergonomics position protection.

ERGONOMIC TRAINING

Ergonomic training is crucial in promoting a safe and productive workplace by reducing the risk of injuries and improving the comfort and efficiency of workers. This type of training provides workers with the knowledge and skills they need to perform their jobs without experiencing physical discomfort or strain. By teaching workers how to adjust their workstations, use equipment properly, and avoid repetitive motions, ergonomic training can prevent a range of injuries, including back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and eye strain. Overall, ergonomic training helps businesses to create a safe and comfortable work environment that promotes employee health, reduces healthcare costs, and boosts productivity.

In conclusion, ergonomic hazards are a real concern in many workplaces, but these risks can be minimized through proper training and education. Ergonomic training is an essential investment for any business that wants to create a safe and productive work environment. By providing workers with the tools and knowledge they need to avoid physical strain and discomfort, companies can reduce the risk of workplace injuries, improve employee morale and job satisfaction, and boost overall productivity.
